I received my Accountancy and Audit studies from the University of Malta and was awarded a firstclass degree in Accountancy from the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy in December 2004. From 2002 to 2004 I was employed as a trainee auditor with Grant Thornton Malta and upon obtaining my degree I was promoted to senior auditor. My duties consisted of providing audit services to a portfolio of clients mainly operating through Malta as a holding company to avail themselves of our favourable tax laws. During this time, I gained exposure on various company structures used within group companies.
In June 2007 I opened my own practice operating as a sole practitioner providing audit services. At this point I decided to focus mainly on audit to be able to meet clients’ needs in a highly specialized and time sensitive sector within the Financial Services industry. Being a sole practitioner, all parts of the audit are done by myself thereby reducing the staff layers present in many larger audit firms with the result that the audit is done more efficiently and thereby in a timelier manner.
I utilize automated auditing tools in the form of Caseware Working Papers and Inscope AML/CFTR software to ensure compliance with FIAU procedures.
